Do you have those days where nothing seems to go as you plan?
Are you hitting plateaus and can’t seem to figure out why?
Do you have a trainer or follow a program but still seem to not be making the progress you desire?
This may seem harsh, but just stay with me for a moment……
If your answer is NO, then you are already heading down the right track and may just need to tweak things a bit. But if you answered YES, then we have more important work on our hands.
Your MINDSET plays such a huge part on you achieving your goals!
I tell my students this statement regularly “If you don’t believe in you, no one else will either”
If you don’t think you can do A, B or C – then you probably can’t….Why is that? Because you tell yourself you CAN’T!!
So first we need to have our mind RIGHT. We have to train our self to speak / think positive thoughts. I am not saying that you will never hit a plateau in your training but you will not hit as many if your mindset is right. You can have the best coach in the world but if you mindset isn’t right it will not matter.
“REMEMBER that we can lead you to water but we can’t make you drink”
I want you to think about adding something to your training every day. Let’s consider this your warm up.
- Sit relaxed on the ground.
- Set a timer for 3, 1 minute intervals.
- For the first min, focus on clearing all your thoughts.
- For the second min, focus on your breathing pattern as it begins to slow.
- For the final min, think positive thoughts and tell yourself you can do ___ in your program.
If you are alone in the gym, SPEAK OUT LOUD to yourself…even if it seems crazy!
I tell myself and my daughter daily “We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!”
Now I don’t want that comment to turn you away if you don’t believe in Christ…so just change that comment to something that empowers you!
Another favorite of mine is “Whatever the challenge, whatever the test, whatever you are striving for GIVE IT YOUR BEST!”
Once this becomes a natural part of your thought process you will be amazed at how your mindset will change, not just for your workouts but also for so many other parts of your life.
I’m not going to lie, I still have my days where negative thoughts will try to creep up. We all will, but knowing how to get them under control quickly will make all the difference.
REMEMBER…
If you don’t BELIEVE in you – Why should anyone else?!
Best of Luck –
Coach Karen
